Dowry Harassment Pushes KPHB Woman To Suicide

Kukatpally:A Lady from the city ended her life at her house in KPHB Colony due to harassment for dowry. The police took into custody her husband D Vijaya Krishna Rao and his brother D Naga Sathya Prasad. D Vijaya Krishna Rao is a records assistant in the school education department at the office of the deputy inspector of schools in Punjagutta.

According to the police, 25-year-old M Dhanalaxmi a native of Tirumalapalem in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, married Krishna Rao on April 4 last year. Her family alleged that her husband had started harassing her for dowry exactly a month after the wedding. This was after an amount of Rs 10 lakh and 40 tolas of gold besides an acre of land and household appliances were offered to the groom during the wedding, police said. He used to resort to physical abuseafter getting drunk. Unable to bear the torture, Dhanalaxmi went to her parents’ house and stayed there for over three months. In January, Krishna Rao went to her house and promised to take care of her, and brought her back to his house. He Apparently got back to his old ways and continued to harass Dhanalaxmi. His brother Sathya Prasad too joined him. This was said by the police quoting a complaint lodged by her father. On Saturday evening, Dhanalaxmi left a text to her father stating that she was going to resort to suicide and later ended her life by hanging herself. A case has been registered based on a complaint under dowry death.
