Officials of Yashoda Hospital have confirmed that 20-year-old Ravali, who was battling for life for the past six days, had succumbed to her burns on Monday evening.

Anwesh, her classmate from of Vagdhevi Degree and PG College in Hanamkonda, had proposed his love to her and she spurned his advances. He stalked her for months, harassing her, asking her to marry him. One day, he came up to her and asked for marriage again. When his proposal was rejected, Anwesh took out a bottle of petrol from his bag, poured it over her and set her on fire. This incident took place at 9 am in Warangal district’s Nayeem Nagar.

She was then rushed to MGM Hospital for immediate first aid, and later shifted to Yashoda Hospital Hyderabad.  Upon arrival, she was incubated and put on ventilatory support. This was done to normalize her breathing as there had been significant damage to her airways and lungs, and to maintain her normal oxygen saturation level. At the time, Doctors had stated that she had sustained 70% burns (third degree), and her condition remained ‘grave.’

Minister for  Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao, who assured of all support to the family, had also visited the hospital in Hyderabad to see Ravali. She died on Monday evening after battling the burns for over six days.

Anwesh, who had been harassing her for several months, was apprehended by the police and booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 354 D (stalking) of IPC.
