Hyderabad:After her boyfriend refused to marry her, 20-year-old Pailla Divya Reddy of Puligalla in Valigonda mandal of Yadadri district, hung herself at her boyfriend’s room in Medipally. The police booked a case of cheating and abetment to suicide against the girl’s boyfriend, Bogga Naveen, 23, and took him into custody for questioning.

Divya was doing her graduation and staying in a hostel in Ramanthapur. Police say that Naveen had lured Divya, who was then an intermediate student, years back. He got into a relationship with her, promising marriage.

However, he had been avoiding Divya of late, police said. Divya, On Wednesday, went to Naveen’s room to talk about their marriage. Naveen refused and walked out of the room. He came back to find his door locked from inside. On forcing the door open, he found her hanging by the fan in his room. Naveen immediately called and alerted the police, said inspector Anji Reddy.

The police informed Divya’s parents after visiting the scene. Her father P Madhusudhan Reddy filed a complaint against Naveen stating that Naveen had cheated his daughter and encouraged suicide.

Based on the complaint, the Medipally police registered a case under Sections 420 (cheating) and 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC. The police took Naveen into custody for questioning.
