Prakasam: A 20-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her father at Kothapalem in Thallur mandal of Prakasam district late on Sunday night.

The victim, Kota Vaishnavi ( 20 ) who was the second child of the accused Kota Venkat Reddy, was a second year degree student at Harshini College in Ongole and was reportedly in a relationship with her classmate Sunil, who hailed from Lingasamudram village.

According to Thallur sub-inspector D. Ranganath and CI Srinivasa Rao, the girl was adamant about her relationship with the boy and despite her parents and relatives counselling her and telling her to mend her ways, she paid no heed.

Feigning ill-health, she got down from the college bus and went to Tirupati to be with Sunil. She also missed her examinations because of her trip to Tirupati, but her boyfriend stayed back and wrote the exam.Vaishnavi’s parents rushed to Tirupati and brought her back the same day.

Despite warning her, Vaishnavi refused to end her relationship and one day she went to bathe and ran away from home. Her parents located her in Markapuram and brought her back again. On Sunday night a fight ensued between the father and daughter and in a fit of rage, her father Kota Venka Reddy strangled and killed her .

An RMP who was called to check on her health, found bruises and marks on her body and neck. After examining her body, the Thallur police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by Village Revenue Officer G. Yalamanda Rao.
