Warangal: Students studying in the TS social welfare residential girls’ high school in Chityal, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district fell sick after consuming breakfast served to them at the hostel.

The 16 girls vomited and suffered from diarrhea. They were rushed to the government hospital in Chityal. After examining them, doctors confirmed that it was a case of food poisoning due to the Khichidi served to them for breakfast.

Of the 16 students admitted 14 have been discharged after treatment. Apart from, Pralaya studying in Class X and Chaya Devi studying in Class V, are still undergoing treatment in the hospital.

However, the condition of Pralaya has not been stable and she has been referred to MGM hospital in Warangal. In another instance which took place in the same school a total of 54 students fell ill for the same reason of food poisoning.

Telangana’s KGBV School Girls Hospitalised After Suspected Food Poisoning

Ranga Reddy: In another case of suspected food poisoning more than sixty seven school girls of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), a government run school which provides residential elementary educational facilities to girls belonging to minority communities in Ranga Reddy district, were hospitalised on Saturday. Apparently they were served fruit salad as part of dinner at the hostel mess and by Sunday morning, the sixty seven students complained of severe stomach ache, diarrhea and vomiting. They were immediately shifted to Chevella Government Hospital.

While thirty seven of them were treated and sent back to the hospital, the remaining thirty of them were sent to Niloufer hospital in Hyderabad for further treatment. Apparently the fruits were kept outside and the exposure could caused damage to them before being served to the girls. Chevella police have registered a case under section 337 IPC (causing hurt by act of endangering life) against the school principal and the cooks based on a complaint filed by the parents.

District Social Welfare department officials are probing the incident and questioning the Hostel Warden and School staff about the incident.
