Six Arrested in Warangal Liquor Shop Owner Robbery Case

Warangal: Miscreants, who robbed a liquor shop owner of Rs 6.70 lakhs by flashing off country-made guns have been arrested according to the Warangal Police Commissioner V Ravinder. The main accused Shankar and Gangarapu Swamy both actively participated in the Rythu Sangam, an offshoot of the Jana Shakti movement popular in 2018.

Both of them decided to earn money using the name of Jana Shakti, once again under the garb of being Naxalites. Later Gangarapu introduced Pittala Srinivas and Mallesh to Shankar. They met a number of times before the Telangana elections and hatched a plan to rob money in the name of Jana Shakti, but to pull it off the accused decided that they would need weapons.

One of the accused Pittala Srinivas was an expert in toy-making and made a gun of out raw materials provided to him. He learnt how to make a gun watching videos on YouTube. The raw materials used for this gun were bicycle rods, pieces of wood, drums and a bronze plate. Another accused Swamy gave him 12 bore bullets.

The pseudo- naxal gang targeted a liquor shop in the Kodakandla mandal and fixed 31 December as the day to carry out the plan. As there were thick crowds milling around the liquor shop, they were forced to drop the plan.

Once again they chose 15 January as the date and on that day Shankar was at present at the liquor shop, while other gang members were waiting for his instructions at Mondrai and Palakurthi roads with the country made guns.

The gang targeted three men carrying Rs 6,70,000, cash from the liquor shop on a motorbike. The miscreants tied a rope obstructing the path of motorbike they were travelling. Later fired a few rounds in the air, took the money and ran away. After the robbery, they distributed the money equally among themselves.

Police said a total of 10 teams were involved in the search operation launched along with local police. However, local Police got the tip-off that accused Shankar, Mallesh, Swamy were in Cheruvu Mundu Thanda and took them into custody. In the inquiry, they revealed that Srinivas, Paramesh and Viplav were in Chennur.

Police recovered a total of Rs 5,56,650 from the culprits and seized three country-made guns, 10 bullets and 11 mobile phones.

According to the details provided by the police commissioner, the accused have been identified as Islavath Shankar from Cheruvi Mundu Thanda, Kodakanlda Mandal, Janagama district, Naraboyina Mallesh from Pittam Palli village, Chityala Mandal, Nalgonda village, Gangarapu Swamy, alias Mallesh from Perepalli, Pittala Srinivas, Paramesh from Chennur village, Palakurthi Mandal, Viplav from NG Kothapalle, Shaligouraram Mandal, Nalgonda.
