Police Track Down Accused In Hit-And-Run Case Using Google Maps, CCTV

Hyderabad: Malkajgiri police arrested a man in a hit-and-run case with the assistance of CCTV footage and Google Maps. It was after 11 days, after the accident the police caught the accused.

According to the Malkajgiri police inspector A. Man Mohan, Kona Ramchander Rao(72), was on his way home from work on January 3 in the evening at 5.30 pm. When he reached the gate of RPF Seventh Battalion at Old Safilguda, a car hit his bike from the rear and he fell off the vehicle.He was rushed to Gandhi Hospital, by the locals immediately, and succumbed to injuries on the same day.

A case was registered with the police after the road mishap took place. Police were left clueless, initially after starting the investigation. But later they found the CCTV footage and on further enhancing the images with the tools available, the vehicle involved in the accident was identified. Police even sought the help of, Google Maps in nabbing the accused Lologu Jayaprakash, 32, a businessman from Old Safilguda, police said.

The accused denied taking the route on which the accident took place. But, after employing Google Maps, the route used by him was confirmed and later he confessed having committed the offence.
