19 Year-old Debt-ridden Punter Commits Suicide In Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A 19-year-old college student committed suicide by hanging himself here on Saturday at Meerpet. According to the police, the deceased took the extreme step to the debts incurred through his habit of betting on horse races.

He was identified as Puppireddy Sampath Reddy (19) who lived with his friends Ajit and Srinivas at NBR colony in Meerpet crossroads. While Ajit went to his hometown Karimnagar, Srinivas went for his job training at Santoshnagar.

"On Friday morning Srinivas went for training around 10:30 am and stayed at his friend's house for the night. When he came back to his room, as the doors were locked, he peeped through the window and noticed that Sampath was hanging to a fan," Meerpet inspector N Yadaiah said.

His friends alleged that Sampath suffered huge losses through betting on horce races. They also suspect that he committed suicide due to his debts, the police said. The police who filed a case and started probing the matter, later sent the body for post-mortem.

Recently, in a similar incident, Depressed over feeling of loneliness, a girl committed suicide by hanging herself. The incident took place at Rayadurgam.

According to the police, Linganna and Padma had three daughters and a son. They left their hometown 25 years ago and settled in Rayadurgam for livelihood. Five Years ago, Linganna and Padma died. While the daughters got married, their brother used to do farming in their hometown. The deceased Jyothi worked as computer operator in Rayadurgam at a computer institute.

She left her job a month ago and was mentally disturbed as there was no one to take care of her. A depressed Jyothi hanged herself and committed suicide. Based on the complaint given by the family members, the police started probing the matter.
