Chain Snatching Gang Held In Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A chain-snatching gang has been arrested by the KPHB police in Hyderabad. The gang includes six persons including three women. They target women pedestrians and snatch their ornaments by using an autorickshaw. Police recovered gold chains worth Rs 1.5 lakh from the gang.

In a span of one week, three chain-snatching offences were reported at Miyapur, Kukatpally and KPHB under the limits of Cyberabad police commissionerate. The gang used the same method in snatching chains in all three cases. On November 15th, the victim P Subbalakshmi (55) from Hydernagar lodged a complaint in KPHB police station that her one and half tolas gold chain was snatched by two people. They came in an autorickshaw carrying six persons while she was on her way to a temple, she said.

Venkateshwar Rao, Madhapur DCP said that the gang was led by Md Raheem (21). "Raheem was released from jail in June 2018 after a PD act was opened on him. From then he started snatching gold chains along with the gang of Hashmath Basha (19), D Prabhakar (20), G Lakshmi (24), K Radhika (23) and P Lavanya (20). They target women pedestrians in an isolated road. Instead of bikes, they choose autos to snatch chains," said the police. The police later recovered 4.5 tolas gold chains from members of the gang.
