Hyderabad: A cab driver was arrested for stealing belongings from a woman passenger. According to the police, the incident took place two days ago at Nacharam cross roads when the victim was returning home after undergoing dialysis treatment at CARE Hospital Musheerabad.

The victim P.Suvarna (35) lives in Boduppal and goes to the hospital every alternate day for dialysis. Whenever she goes, she would go alone after booking a cab online.

Meanwhile, on November 12th, Suvarna finished her treatment at night and was waiting on the Chilakalguda road around 12:20 am to go home. A car came to her and offered to drop her. She noticed that there was another woman in the vehicle. The driver was agreed to drop her at Boduppal. After dropping the other passenger at Lalapet around 1 am, the cab driver took a detour and headed towards Nacharam, instead of Uppal. When Suvarna questioned the driver about changing the route, he slapped and threatened her. Later he shoved her out on to the road at Nacharam crossroads from the car after snatching her handbag.

Later, the woman lodged a complaint at Nacharam police station and informed her family members. During the course of investigation, police found out that Suvarna's mobile was still switched on. They managed to nab the cab driver by texting him to return the medical prescriptions and keep the phone and cash if he wanted. He agreed to the deal and asked her to come to Baba cafe, Mallapur on Tuesday night.

The Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagawat said that the accused was caught at the cafe by Nacharam police. He was identified as Dumbala Srinivas Reddy (38) of Manthapuri village, Yadadri district living in Nacharam. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and admitted he had stolen Rs 2,300 and a mobile phone. The police seized the car.
