Chennai: A commotion errupted in Dharmapuri village after a girl was raped three days back and died. The family members and Women's association are demanding the arrest of the accused.

The victim, a 17 year old, was the daughter of Annamalai and Malar who live in Chikling, Dharmapuri. She was pursuing her intermediate course and staying at a hostel. She came to her village on November 5 to celebrate Diwali with her family. It is learned that She went for open defecation as there was no washroom at her house. Her mother suspected something amiss when she didn't return. When Malar went to check, she found her daughter in an unconscious stage. Immediately, the victim was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared that she was raped by someone.

On October 7, she was examined and sent to a public health care center but as her health deteriorated, she was again shifted to the hospital. On Saturday, she died while undergoing treatment.

Her parents approached the police but nobody responded. Then they informed the district collector on the toll free number and lodged a complaint who filed a case. They also took a testimony from sowmya. She alleged that Satish and Ramesh forced her and sexually harassed her. Based on her complaint, the police filed a case. Meanwhile, some village elders intervened in the case and tried to manipulate it. The incident came to light after she died of sexual harrassment. The civil society, women associations and other associations belonging to socially backward classes united on Sunday to demand the arrest of the culprit.

The people in the village are not allowing police and other officials who are in support of the accused. The villagers stepped back when the victim gained a huge support from the women's association. Speaking to the media, Annamalai alleged that he was threatened by a DSP officer who called him. He demaned justice for his daughter. When the situation ran out of control, district collector Malar Vili and SP Mahesh Kumar involved in the matter and ordered probe into the case.
