Benagluru:There was a high-voltage drama outside the house of Kannada actor Duniya Vijay’s first wife, Nagarathna, in Katriguppe, Bengaluru on Sunday morning. The Girinagar police went there to arrest her on charges of assaulting Vijay’s second wife, Keerthi and sensing her arrest Nagarathna went absconding.

Monika, Nagarathna's eldest daughter, who was at home refused to open the door and cooperate with the police and asked them if they had a warrant to arrest her mother. Subsequently, she was brought to the station. The Girinagar police said efforts were on to trace Nagarathna. In the meantime, Nagarathna's lawyer went to the police station and filed her bail application stating that she had not attacked Keerthi bit only hurt her with her hands.

CCTV footage from Vijay’s house where he lives with his second wife, Keerthi, shows Nagarathna abusing and hitting Keerthi with slippers on September 24 which was recorded and submitted to the Police. A criminal case has been filed following the order of Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Annamalai, Girinagar police. When the police went to arrest her, Nagarathna had already fled her house. Monika was taken into custody and upon hearing this, Vijay and Keerthi immediately went to see her at the Girinagar Police station. Talking to reporters there, he said that punishing his daughter for her mother's crime was not correct and that Nagarathna was an irresponsible woman who did not care about her daughter's future.

Duniya Vijay requested Nagarathna through the media to surrender and not use their 18-year-old daughter Monika as a shield, saying this kind of behaviour would affect the girl's future. He also said that he was unable to see his daughter behind bars and that Nagarathna should come out immediately and set his daughter free.
