Hyderabad: Hawala money from Andhra Pradesh finding its way into Telangana during election season, created ripples across the state. Police seized a huge amount of Rs. 60 lakhs in Hyderabad, said to have been routed through hawala channels, from the driver of Telugu Yuvatha president, Vallabhaneni Anil.

The amount was meant to be sent to Jagtiyal, police said. Along with the driver, Mahesh, Central Zone police arrested five others. Mahesh reportedly told the police that the amount was being taken to Jagtiyal on the instructions of Anil.

Police have undertaken a detailed investigation following the seizure and are looking at the case from several angles. The motive behind channeling such a large amount to Jagtiyal is being probed.

It may be recalled that for some time now, political circles have been abuzz with speculation that the TDP, after the grand alliance, had begun pumping money in a big way into the Telangana elections. Caretaker Telangana chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and IT minister in his cabinet and son, K. Taraka Rama Rao, KTR, had criticised Chandrababu Naidu in strong terms on this count.
