Guntur Girl Faces Acid Attack Threat From Jilted Lover

Guntur: A case was registered against Ramavat Shivanayak on Monday for threatening to attack a girl with acid if she refused to accept his marriage proposal.

The girl, a Class 9 student, lodged a complaint at a police station in Guntur after the police asked villagers to share their grievances. She also spoke to the media saying that the accused would harass her to accept his love while she was on her way to the school adding that she filed a complaint against him on July 6. Ramavat then came out of jail on bail and again began torturing her for marriage. He also threatened to pour acide over her if she denied his request.

The girl's father also said that Ramavat's grandfather is a follower of Vinukonda MLA GV Anjaneyulu. With the support of the ruling party, Ramavat continued to harass the girl and no came forward to go against him, he added.

Another girl from the same village also lodged a complaint against a man called Yogendra who married her on January 20 at Thanthadi beach against their parents' will. According to reports, the girl who is pursuing her intermediate course met Yogendra in December last year through a common friend and they fell in love. The duo got married in January and lived at different places in 45 days.

In March, the accused left the girl at her home saying he would come back in three months to take her and switched off his mobile. When the girl failed to reach him over the phone, she inquired about him and learnt that he was residing in Adavipalli village in Guntur. Lodging a complaint against him on Monday, the girl requested the police to reunite them.
