Mute Girl Raped, Bludgeoned To Death In Karur

Chennai: A 27-year-old man was arrested for raping an 18-year-old mute girl and beating her to death in Karur district of Tamil Nadu.

According to police, the accused Manikyam sneaked into the girl's house when she was alone at home on Tuesday. As she was mute, the girl could not raise an alarm to seek help from neighbours. Later he bludgeoned her with an iron rod and took the girl to a nearby orchard and raped her. Manikyam who was working as a painter took advantage of the situation after learning her parents had gone for work.

The police registered a case under POCSO act and sent him to custody.

In another incident of the same district, a physically handicapped girl was raped by a Srilankan man Raj Kumar (32) in 2016. Based on a complaint of her mother Shiva Bhagyam, Raj Kumar was sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice Shashikala on Tuesday.
