Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a depressed father committed suicide after killing his 12-year-old son by pushing him into a lake and later jumping into it.

It incident took place on Monday evening, while the bodies surfaced in the lake the same night. Local residents informed the police who fished out the bodies on Tuesday morning. The identity of the deceased was disclosed much later.

According to police, the victims were 40 year-old Dharam Sudhir Kumar, a medical shop owner from Balajinagar and his 12 year-old son, a student of Class-VII.

Sudhir Kumar left home with his son on Monday after telling his family members that he was taking him out. He then called his brother at around 1.30 am and told him that he was depressed over his business losses. Added to that, his son had failed in Class-VII exams, he complained.

Even as his brother tried to console him, Sudhir switched off his mobile. Their bodies were found by the locals on Tuesday in Chennapur lake. The police called his family after tracking details from the registration plate of the bike, which was parked in the vicinity. The family identified the bodies, following which a case was registered under Section 174 (suspicious death) of CrPC. The bodies were shifted for postmortem.
