Pakistan’s Zafar Sarfaraz Becomes First Cricketer To Die Of COVID-19
ISLAMABAD: A cricketer has become the latest casualty for the dreaded Coronavirus. Former Pakistan first-class cricketer Zafar Sarfaraz died due to COVID-19 on Tuesday.
According to reports, the 50-year-old was on a ventilator in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Peshawar for the last three days. Sarfraz is the first professional cricketer to succumb to COVID-19.
A left-handed middle-order batsman, Sarfaraz made his cricket debut back in 1988.
Zafar was the brother of Pakistan international Akhtar Sarfraz, who died 10 months ago in the same city after a battle with colon cancer
Peshawar, a city in the north of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, has over 744 of the 5,500 active cases in the country.
The number of global Coronavirus cases has inched close to a staggering two million while more than 1.2 lakh deaths have been recorded from the COVID-19 diseases. The US continues to be the worst-hit, accounting for close to 24,000 deaths and registering a total of 5.87 lakh confirmed positive cases so far.
