New Zealand, England Should Have Shared World Cup 2019 Trophy

Craig McMillan New Zealand's batting coach observed that given the peculiar circumstances of the World Cup final played at Lord's on Sunday, the trophy should have been shared by both New Zealand and England. McMillan said, "When you have two teams that can't be separated after a 50 over match and then a Super Over, then perhaps sharing the trophy would be the right thing to do."

The Sunday final has had its fair share of controversy. Twitterati and cricket experts went ballistic over Sri Lankan umpire Kumara Dharmasena's decision to award six runs to England after a fielder's throw hit the outstretched bat of Ben Stokes and ran away to the fence. The batsmen had completed two runs. Well-known international umpire Simon Taufel faulted Kumara Dharmasena for this decision saying that as per the rules of cricket, he should have awarded 5 runs. The controversy refuses to die down with former players chipping in with their opinions. Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has taken the decision in his stride commenting that one of the two teams had to walk away with the trophy and he was gutted that England did, and over boundary rate at that.
