Rain Interruption In India-Newzealand Semi-final, A Boon For Men In Blue?

The India-New Zealand semi-final at Old Trafford on Tuesday was rudely interrupted by ran after the kiwis scored 211 losing 5 wickets in 46.1 overs. Distraught Indian fans were tense about the possibility of Duckworth Lewis System coming into play making it difficult for India to achieve its target in a reduced over scenario. However, fans now feel that it was a good thing that it rained. Cricket experts and analysts agree with them on this count.

In a reduced over scenario under DLS, team India would have had to score 148 runs in 20 overs to knock the New Zealanders over. Though there are a number of T20 stars in the Indian side, the pitch affected by rain aided by overcast conditions could help the New Zealand bowlers swing the ball dangerously, experts said.

Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson could use the weather conditions to their advantage, fans and former players opined. This would have made chasing a difficult task for India. The early overs faced by New Zealand batsman showed that the Old Trafford pitch was not an easy one to bat on. Fans, commentators and experts are of the consensus that having a reserved day for the semi-final has given India a breather. The larger question remains what if it were to rain on Wednesday as well.
