Cops arrest two in connection with murder of Aruna

The police arrested two people on Thursday, including the brother of the prime accused of murdering a 24-year-old female Osmania University post-graduate student, who was allegedly strangulated to death in Chatrinaka.

The young woman identified as Aruna was found dead at the residence of her former classmate Shiva Kumar, who had also pursued a post-graduate course at Osmania University, at Uppuguda in Chatrinaka, in December 31 last year. A murder case was registered against her friend Shiva Kumar, who had been absconding.

The police said that the prime accused Shiva Kumar informed his brother Prabhu and his friend Tirupathi on December 30 that he would leave Andhra Pradesh to avoid arrest. During investigation, the police arrested Prabhu and his friend Praveen today.

On December 28 last year, Aruna came to Chatrinaka to Shiva Kumar's house and the next day he contacted his brother Prabhu, asking him to come to the house. Investigations revealed that Shiva Kumar who allegedly murdered Aruna at around 9 pm, planned to dispose off the victim's body along with his brother, the police said. After this, Shiva Kumar went to his native place in Medak district and picked up Prabhu, who contacted his friend Praveen to secure a car to dispose off the body, but failed to do so, the police said.

Later, the three accused reached the place where the murder was committed and tried to conceal her body by digging a grave near their house. However, they failed to dispose off her body again, after some neighbours noticed. Finally, they locked the house with the body lying inside and went away, the police said. The police had ruled out sexual assault on the woman citing a preliminary medical report. There is no such indication as per the preliminary medical report. However, the postmortem report revealed unforced sexual intercourse, the police said.
