Constable arrested for kidnapping, marrying minor girl

Constable P. Sai Kumar was arrested on Wednesday on charges of kidnapping and marrying minor girl.

Hyderabad: Cyberabad-East police arrested a constable P. Sai Kumar working at Trimulgherry traffic police station on Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl and marrying her five months back.

Police registered a case against Sai Kumar according to the IPC Section of 366-A, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on the complaint lodged by Babu Singh, father of the girl on February 10 of this year stating that his minor daughter had gone missing.

Police said that Babu Singh, an air-conditioner mechanic from Bihar, complained at Malkajgiri police station on February 10 claiming his under aged daughter was missing. But two days later, constable P. Sai Kumar came to the police station with the girl saying that he had married the girl at the Arya Samaj in Chengicherla on the city’s outskirts.

“When we checked the age of the girl in her SSC certificate, it was indicated that she was below 18 years then and the certificate was issued from Bihar state”, said the Malkajgiri SI Janaki Reddy. Then the police wrote to authorities of Bihar to confirm the age of the girl. After receiving the certificates from Bihar state stating the girl was minor when she got married, police arrested the constable on Wednesday with the evidence and sent him to the local court for hearing.
