Congress gave a tough fight in difficult situations : Ponnala

The Congress vowed to continue its fight despite the Medak poll reversal.

Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad after the declaration of result of Medak bypoll, Telangana PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that his party would continue its agitations over the anti-people policies of the state government.

Ponnala said that he is accepting responsibility for the defeat of the party in the by-poll. “We will work to strengthen the party,” said the PCC chief.

Ponnala said on the bypoll: "There were no ruling party and opposition party in the state at the time of general elections as President’s Rule was imposed then. Now TRS,TDP and BJP are in power in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and the Centre respectively. Further, TDP and BJP joined hands in these elections."

"CPI, CPI (M) and MIM supported TRS in these elections. Madiga social community, which is strong in the parliamentary constituency, had supported BJP in these elections.  Even though TDP and BJP are the ruling parties, they got lesser votes than the Congress candidate in the bypoll.

TRS won here for three successive terms. Several ministers and MLAs were fielded to do campaign here. Despite these adverse situation, Congress Party could give a tough competition in the bypoll," he argued.
