Congress divided on Telangana?

Congress divided on Telangana?

The Union minister Vayalar Ravi who has become a key  participant in the debate on Telangana in the Congress hierarchy, has categorically made it clear in a statement that the 'T' state will not happen any time soon.

There were reports that Vayalar would be able to confirm the Centre's stance on Telangana only in 2014. Vayalar Ravi added that the Telangana issue  will be discussed just before the 2014 elections. His remarks on Telangana clearly reflect that the Centre is in a state of confusion.
It may be recalled that yesterday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi held a meeting and discussed the issue of Telangana with senior party leaders, including union Ministers, amid growing demands for an early decision on the matter. Though the issue of Telangana was discussed, there was no decision. There is mounting  pressure on the party high command to take an early decision on the politically volatile issue which has divided Andhra Pradesh on regional lines.

But with the recent developments, Sonia wants to finalize the issue immediately. The High Command is also planning to call for an all-party meeting to get opinions from various sections of the political spectrum. If that happens, then it would become clear that there will be no separate state because of a lack of unanimity between  parties.

Meanwhile, while KCR is in the capital to meet Sonia for the past two weeks, members from the TRS created a ruckus in the AP assembly and pressurized the government to pass a resolution on separate statehood for Telangana. This led to the House being adjourned till Thursday. Meanwhile, Telangana Congress MLAs have started collecting signatures of MLAs for submission of a letter to Sonia Gandhi, requesting her to take an early decision on Telangana.

Amid all the confusion, debate and disagreements, it remains to be seen if Telangana be a separate state.
