Cong, TDP welcome SC verdict on local body polls

Telugu Desam Party welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on giving green signal to local body polls in the State.

TDP leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said BCs would get injustice if the 2001 census was taken into consideration for reservations. he blamed the Govt for delay in the local body polls. The polls should be held under supervision of EC, otherwise it would be like cooperative polls, he demanded.

'Local body polls are semi-finals for 2014 polls'

The local body elections would be considered as semi-finals for 2014 general elections, said Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao.Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict, VH said it would be decided by the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy after consulting with senior leaders of the party whether to go for polls with party symbols or not.

W'll not tolerate any cut in quota: Krishnaiah

Meanwhile, BC Welfare Association president R Krishnaiah warned that any cut in the reservations for BCs below 34% would be viewed seriously in the local body elections. he criticised that the Congress Govt was resorting to anti-BC policies. There should be a perminant solution to the BC reservation issue, he said and demanded the amendment should be made to the Constitution to this effect.

Jana refutes allegations against Govt

Congress leader Jana Reddy welcomed the SC order and refuted the ellegations levelled by opposition parties that blaming the Govt for delay in the local body elections. He said central funds to the tune of Rs 1700 crore was delayed to the State due to delay in the elections.
