Compensate rain-hit farmers adequately, Vijayamma demands

YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma on Monday demanded compensation of Rs. 10,000 per acre as relief to the farmers, who lost their crops in North Coastal districts during incessant rains over the last six days.

“If the farmers are not compensated adequately, our party will wage a do-or-die battle against the government for the welfare of the farmers,” she said, addressing the farmers during her visit. After inspecting the damage in the fields in Duvva and Tanuku, Vijayamma demanded the government to waive all crop loans of the farmers in flood hit areas.
She visited Mustabad to console a bereaved family, which lost the bread earner of the family and also his daughter, to the rain fury.  Vijayamma also demanded the government to initiate measures to purchase massive stocks of paddy, maize and cotton through the Food Corporation of India and Cotton Corporation of India to protect the interests of farmers.
In a related development, Union Minister Chiranjeevi too began the tour of flood hit areas on Monday, but failed to reach the places affected by rain havoc.
Speaking to the media persons in Visakhapatnam, he assured farmers that he would give precise report on loss incurred to the farmers to get them compensated. He advised TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu not to politicize the problems of floods.
