The CISF arrested Paraguay national for illegally carrying cocaine

New Delhi: The CISF has caught a Paraguay national from Cochin airport in Kerala for illegally carrying 3.69 kg cocaine worth Rs 4 crore in the international market, an official said here on Monday. The passenger, identified as Alexis Regalado Fernandez, was caught around 7.30 p.m. on Sunday during the pre-embarkation security check (frisking) at the domestic security hold area of Cochin airport, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official said.

"The frisking team noticed some padding under the clothes on the body of Fernandez. They found it to be suspicious. "The passenger was taken for a pat-down search which led to the recovery of some white powder packets strapped to his waist and shin bone in plastic pouches designed like cricket pads," the official said. "The powder was later identified as cocaine. The total weight of the cocaine in such pouches was 3.693 kg."

Fernandez, having passport number L333622, came to Cochin on an Emirates Airlines flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Dubai on November 19 and was supposed to travel from Cochin to Bengaluru the same day. The CISF official said the Narcotics Control Bureau was immediately informed of the matter and they took Fernandez into their custody and seized the recovered cocaine. (IANS)
