Vijayawada: Tanuja, a class 10 student was rushed to a hospital on Thursday after the school headmaster Venkateswara Rao hit the girl following which she fainted in the classroom.
The girl is studying in Zilla Parishad High School at Mustabad village in Gannavaram mandal in Krishna district.
Her classmates said that the headmaster hit her hard with cane for failing to inform him her absence at school on Wednesday. Despite saying that she was not well, headmaster didn’t believe her and slapped hard on her face following which she collapsed, they added.
As the tension mounted the headmaster went missing and switched off his phone
The girl's parents and relatives staged dharna at the school seeking headmaster’s suspension. As the tension mounted the headmaster went missing and switched off his phone.
"He could have inquired from us on her absence rather than meting out cruelty," said Srinivas Rao, girl's father. Meanwhile, district education officer Subba Reddy has issued a show cause notice to the headmaster seeking his explanation, adding a departmental inquiry has also been ordered.
Circle inspector Mohd Ali said that a case has been registered against the headmaster and they will probe into the matter.
