City police alert against terror strike: DGP

Hyderabad: After the dreaded IS massacre at Paris and California that shook the entire world, the Telangana police is all geared up to thwart any such attacks in the state or city.In the backdrop of terror fear, Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma said on Wednesday that the police department is well prepared to foil any such incident in the city. He said the armed personnel in the rank of interceptor are kept ready to as the first line of defence.

Speaking at a 'Meet the Press' organised by Telangana State Union of Working Journalist (TSUWJ) on Wednesday, Sharma said apart from making armed personnel ready, intelligence-gathering has also been made strong for the surveillance of terror suspects.

Social media has the potential to misguide the youth as IS is targeting the youth via social media, he said. With the help of the intelligence, police have nabbed IS sympathisers and are counselled against joining the terror groups.

He emphasised people to use social media like Facebook and WhatsApp in addressing their issues as well as giving feedback to help them grow better. The police is emphasizing the upgradation of technology believing that menace can be curbed tactfully.

"Dial-100 improvement is underway to match the specifications laid down by the ministry of home affairs (MHA). Once those technological improvements are made, Telangana and Gujarat will be only two states in the country to be part of the centralised system," he said.

DGP also said that they have submitted proposal to state government to install CCTV cameras, where in the government will give 10,000 cameras and the rest would be procured from private institutions.

"All of them will be connected to the iconic 24 floor command control system the construction of which at Jubilee Hills will start soon," he said.

Mr. Sharma also said that there were 15,000 vacancies in the sanctioned 57,217 police posts in Telangana and urged women to come forward to join the service as 33 percent of reservation is there in any recruitment drive.
