Hyderabad: In a bid to put molesters or rapists at bay, a city boy has invented an 'ElectroShoe' which can electrocute the perpetrators in the time of need. Siddharth Mandala, a class 12 student who designed the ElectroShoe, recalls that the Nirbhaya incident in Delhi that shook the nation inspired him to come up with the product.

"I was 12 years old when the Delhi rape incident took place. What if she had been one of my friends? I used my own knowledge and the Internet, and with my friend Abhishek’s help, I made something that could stop people falling prey to rapists," says Siddharth.

The ElectroShoe generates 0.1amp electricity sending out an alert to the police and family members. "All a woman needs to do is ensure that the battery is sufficiently charged. When the shoe makes contact with an attacker's body, the attacker will be electrocuted," he explained.

The 17-year-old has used simple concept which he learned at school in designing the product. Interestingly, the shoe gets recharged as the person walks and the energy gets stored in a rechargeable battery. "The shoe was created using a unique circuit board that uses footsteps to charge itself with the help of a concept called the "piezoelectric effect", he said.

Siddharth is waiting for a patent after which has plans to look at the market prospects for his product.

“After the patent is obtained, I plan to approach start-up incubators in the city to get a better understanding of how my product will fare in the real market and what changes I have to make to the prototype. I need to focus on the designing of the product in order to make it appealing in a market space," said Mandala

As per the National Crime Records Bureau data in 2015, Telangana stood at third in crimes against woman. Delhi reported the highest crime rate, followed by Assam.
