Major fire engulfed a juice factory at Gollapalli in Chittoor district on Wednesday.
Six factory workers were injured in the mishap. It is learnt that the company suffered a loss of Rs 10 crores. Fortunately, the fire broke up in the godown. The damage would be more if the blaze spreads to the factory.
More than 50 water tankers have been rushed to the scene to douse the flames. Rescue operation is in progress with two fire engines from the district and another from Puttur pressed into service.
Fire officials are trying to bring the flames under control. People in the nearby areas have been evacuated to prevent any untoward incident. There were no major casualties as most labourers were out for lunch.
Thick smoke has been billowing out from the factory building. The Chittoor district police personnel too are involved in the rescue operations. It is learnt that the cops have lent a helping hand to the firemen. Experts say the huge flames are due to the presence of plastic and mango waste inside the factory.
