Pavani is shielded by Chintu; police demand custody

Pavani is a hustler of sorts; police investigating her activities have been discovering many intriguing facts about her. The saree business that she showcases to the world is supposedly only a front. She operates an illegal money lending for which she has enrolled the muscle power of Chintu, the notorious nephew of the Mayor couple, whom he murdered recently.

Pavani is a resident of SBI colony in Chittoor, where she lives with her husband Charan, alias Cherri, an auto driver by profession. She mingled well and moved in a friendly manner with people in the colony and soon started taking loans in the form of cash and jewelry from them. Pavani not only collected loans in Chittoor but also from other places like Srikalahasti.

Between November 2013 and December 2015, Pavani hypothecated 7.882 kilos of gold in 244 accounts in Muthoot Gold Finance. Out of this Muthoot finance auctioned away 1.30 kilos of this gold. Pavani was able to get 4.308 kilos of gold released by paying Rs.91 lakh. The Chittoor police has confiscated 1.600 kilos of gold a week ago.

The original owners of the ornaments eventually brought pressure on Pavani, who had submitted a petition in Srikalahasti court three months ago, sighting her financial trouble. Police started investigating Pavani only after Jyotsna, the wife of O.M. Ramdas complained to the police that Pavani had cheated her off her 406 grams of gold.

Meanwhile Pavani got herself introduced to Chintu through Haridas. Police has recorded that Jyotsna and certain other women were threatened by Chintu on behalf of Pavani. Police have registered cases under ICC sections 420, 384, 109, and RW 34 against Chintu, Haridas, Pavani and Cherri.

The police have filed for the custody of Chintu and Haridas for investigating the case. A week before the mayor couple's murder, Chintu sent Pavani away and is also believed to have joined her later. Based on this information police are also investigating this angle and looking out for these culprits.
