Are the Chennai bombs meant for Modi's meeting? Was it targeting the BJP meet? Is this another attempt a la the Patna blast?

If the supporters of BJP's prime ministerial aspirant Narendra Modi are to be believed, the bombs were actually meant for Modi's meet. A concerted campaign is also on to impart an aura of heroism to the bearded boss of Gujarat. But, intelligence sources and security analysts feel otherwise. They say it is unlikely that the bombs were meant for Narendra Modi.

Their logic is simple. The blasts were not meant to target any politician. Their aim is to create panic, confusion and also to warn the security agencies of the things to come. Modi addressed a rally in Tirupati and then one at Nellore. Assuming the bombs were meant to go off in Andhra Pradesh, there was no public address of Modi at the time when the bombs went off.

Also, there is every indication that it was planted in Chennai and the timer set for a very short duration. Why would anyone plant a bomb in Chennai, that too beneath a seat in a railway compartment, when the meetings are held on open grounds far removed from railway stations?

The bomb was packed into a metal pipe in a manner not meant to cause a large-scale destruction. The motive of the terrorist was to cause panic and also tell the world about his group's presence. Intel sources say that this blast may have got more to do with the battle for supremacy within the terrorist groups operating in Tamil Nadu.The group was perhaps testing waters in Chennai, which hadn't seen many terror attacks.

If ever there was a similarity in the Patna and Chennai blasts, it is that both have began in railway stations. While Patna blasts were even set off at Modi's meeting venue, the Chennai blast began and ended right below the seat of an unfortunate young girl, who was on her way home.
