Chandrababu's River-linking goes Kaput

AP CM Chandrababu Naidu’s fallacious publicity that he had inter-linked Godavari and Krishna rivers, not just fell flat, but also boomeranged on him. While no one is believing that he had linked the rivers that had already been linked for years, the much publicized linking came unstuck as the aqueduct in Janampet of West Godavari district, meant to link both the rivers collapsed on the same day of its much-hyped launch.

The aqueduct, which was washed away, caused the water to be reverse-pumped into Kolleru lake instead of the Polavaram Right Main Canal. Alarmed officials tried to arrest the breach but gave up after the breach became unmanageably bigger.

The Rs 15-crore aqueduct was constructed in a tearing hurry and the proper curing was not done. Under pressure from the Andhra Pradesh government, the officials completed the work in haste in a record 30 days and saw that the motor is switched on September 18. 
Upon information, West Godavari district collector Katamaneni Bhaskar and Dendulur legislator Chintamaneni Prabhakar, BJP MLC Somu Veerraju and others visited the breach site on Sunday night.
