Chandrababu Offers 15 Acres To Gopichand To Set Up Badminton Academy In Amaravati

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced 15 acres of land in Amaravati to Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu’s coach P Gopichand in the proposed sports city for setting up badminton academy.

Participating in the felicitation progaramme held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium he honored Sindhu with prize money of Rs 3 crore and Rs 50 lakh to Gopichand.

Chandrababu asserted that the academy will be of international standards and that the government will pool in funds to provide the best of infrastructure.

“The academy should have the best infrastructure to attract international players. The government will pool in funds through donations and will also pitch in to establish the academy,” he said.

The CM further said that it is his dream to conduct Olympics in India, that too in Amaravati and vowed that he will take up the responsibility to make that dream into a reality.

Lauding the duo - Sindhu and Gopichand - CM said that Andhra Cricket Association also announced a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh to Sindhu and Rs 10 lakh to Gopichand.
