Kirlampudi: Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabam was stopped by the police at Veeravaram village, in Kirlampudi mandal of East Godavaram district on Sunday, after walking for about seven kilometres from his residence as part of the padayatra — 'Chalo Amaravati' demanding BC status for Kapu community.

Kapu Joint Action Committee (JAC) Vasireddy Yesudas suffered a minor leg injury after a scuffle broke out between the police and Mudragada followers at Veeravaram. Later, Mudragada was forcibly bundled into a van and was shifted to the police station.

Speaking to media persons, Vasireddy Yesudas found fault with the police's attitude towards the Kapu leader who is protesting in a Gandhian way. AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is treating Kapu community as his enemy. IPS officers like DGP Sambasiva Rao are acting stooges to Chandrababu Naidu, he commented.

Following the incident, Andhra Pradesh state DGP Sambasiva Rao on Sunday said that there was no permission for the padayatra — 'Chalo Amaravati'.

He said that Mudragada would be held responsible for any untoward incident that would take place during the mass rally. Action would be taken against people those who have supported Mudragada during the time of padayatra, he clarified. "Stern action would be taken against those who violate the law," the state DGP maintained.
