Centre Deceiving AP: Undavalli Arunkumar

Hyderabad: Former MP and Congress Party senior leader Undavalli Arunkumar expressed anguish over the way people of Andhra Pradesh were once again deceived with the Centre refused to award Special Category Status to the State. He slammed the NDA government for not implementing the assurance given in Parliament.

Speaking to the media at Press Club on Friday, Undavalli said: “Citing 14th Finance Commission recommendations, The Centre has denied special status to AP. Without implementing assurances given in AP Reorganization Act, the Centre is playing gimmicks in the name of financial package. As soon as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced the financial package, Chandrababu Naidu has welcomed it. This shows the secret agreement of BJP and Chandrababu Naidu.

Undavalli said that despite stiff opposition from Seemandhra leaders, AP was bifurcated. Now, the assurances given in the AP Reorganization Act are being ignored by the Centre. How can Centre award the construction of Polavaram project to AP? It requires constitutional amendment. Why Chandrababu Naidu not pressurizing the Centre. Is there any secret understanding between KCR and Chandrababu Naidu? Is Prime Minister Modi fearing that if special status is awarded, AP will get industrial investments from Gujarat. It’s Naidu’s responsibility to tell the public what’s’ the truth,” said Undavalli.
