CBI arrests absconding IT official

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today took into custody absconding Income Tax (IT) official Venkateswara Rao. He was arrested by the CBI while undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital in Kakinada, sources said.

Venkateswara Rao was trapped by the CBI while accepting a huge amount of bribe, Rs 85 lakh, from a person on September 24 to do an official favor. He was later admitted to a private nursing home with some ailment but escaped from there while undergoing treatment.

Since then he was at large. Today, the CBI sleuths laid a trap and took him into custody when he undergoing treatment at the Kakinada Government General Hospital.
