Vijayawada, Oct 13: Call money financier Potluri Srinivas who attempted to commit suicide on October 6 died while undergoing treatment on Thursday. Srinivas consumed pesticide after writing a suicide note at his real estate venture in Gudivada. Neighbors shifted him to Vijayawada for treatment and he was battling for life since then.

Srinivas was running finance business for 15 years and invested money borrowed from others at a cheaper rate of interest to lend at a higher rate. After the call money racket was exposed, he lost in crores and was unable to pay his creditors.

Three months back Srinivas filed an insolvency petition (IP) for Rs7 crore and was absconding since then.

Srinivas's wife Swapna told reporters at the hospital that her husband died only because of police harassment. "More than our creditors, it was police who tortured us," she said adding that they never wanted to default payments due to their creditors. Police took all our family members to police station and tortured my brother-in-law to reveal my husband's whereabouts, but we did not know where he was, she said. Finally he spoke to us on 6th morning and said he was committing suicide, she said.

Srinivas named Gudavalli Narasimha Rao, Muralikrishna, Shiva, Narasaiah Gumasta Seenu, Rajendraprasad, Potluri Koteshwara Rao, Satyanarayana, Rajkumar, Manchineni Venkateshwarlu as responsible for his death.

Police are investigating the case on the basis of the suicide note.
