Bride Who Was Attacked With Acid On Wedding Night Returns To Marry Her Willing Groom

Bareilly: This might not be a fairy tale wedding but going by what transpired up until the moment of wedlock, one could argue that it surely fits the bill.

A woman who suffered burn injuries on her wedding night, after she was attacked by another woman with acid, and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment, had a miraculous reprieve when the bridegroom chose not to abandon her for her injuries.

She returned to the wedding ceremony after initial treatment at the hospital, before eventually returning to the hospital for further treatment after the wedding.

Police said the woman suffered burn injuries when two women threw acid at her on her wedding night before fleeing in the Cantonment area here. The women entered the bride's room in Yugvina library compound on Friday night and threw acid on her face. The incident took place when the rituals were about to begin.

The victim's grandmother was keeping her company in the room and all their relatives were outside in the compound, police said. One of the attackers held the bride and the other attacked her with acid. They fled after locking the room from outside.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where she underwent initial treatment before returning to the wedding ceremony to marry her willing groom.

Police said a probe is on and all angles are being looked into.
