Usain Bolt won the men’s 200 metres dash on Thursday.

Rio de Janeiro: Usain Bolt won the men’s 200 metres title at a third consecutive Olympics with a dominant performance at the Rio Games here.

The Jamaican legend registered a time of 19.78 seconds at the Oympic Stadium to clinch his second gold medal of the Rio Games here on Thursday. Bolt had earlier won the men’s 100m title to become the first athlete in the history of the Olympics to win the showpiece event three times in a row. Andre de Grasse of Canada took silver with a time of 20.02 while Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre got the bronze with 20.12.

Bolt created history with third consecutive 100m gold at the Olympics. With the 100m and 200m gold already in his kitty, the legendary Bolt is enroute for sporting immortality at Rio Olympics.

Bolt became the first man to win three straight Olympic 100m titles on Sunday by beating Gatlin by eight hundredths of a second, with De Grasse taking bronze. Already considered the most successful sprinter of all time, Bolt is hoping to achieve an unprecedented triple-triple here: three straight Olympic gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.
