Boat capsizes in Malaysia, 14 dead, 12 missing

A boat carrying 62 persons, capsized in Malaysia killing 14 persons. Twelve more people are feared missing. The incident occurred near Johor and and most of the passengers were illegal migrants returning to Indonesia. As many as eight women and 26 men were rescued.

The boat capsized due to strong wings late on Saturday night and the incident came to light only on Sunday. Those rescued have been handed over to the immigration department of Johor province. Johor state has a fairly long coastline and shares a border with Indonesia. this makes illegal immigration easy. About two million Indonesians are believed to be living illegally in Malaysia.
