The Government should be held responsible for the tragedy. It is a personal loss to me as three women from my wife's extended family had died. The Government should answer as to why the passengers were overloaded during a trial run.

K Narayana, CPI senior leader.

We are constituting a Fact Finding Committee to probe into the boat tragedy. This will be led by former MLA Mastan Wali. The committee would inspect the Pavitra Sangamam Ghat, the mishap site, on November 14. The committee would file its report after interacting with the victims and their kin.

The boat did not have valid licence. When I rushed to the spot last night as the victims were from my constituency, I found no official at the spot. The bodies were hurriedly shifted to Ongole in the night itself.
