It was alleged that one of the contestant Gayathri in the show used the word cheri (slum dweller) during the conversation with another contestant in the show.

Bigg Boss Tamil, which has been embroiled in controversy ever since it was launched last month, is facing another threat as a Rs 100 crore defamation case was filed against the reality show and its host Kamal Haasan.

Politician K Krishnaswamy filed the case against actor Kamal Haasan and the programme organisers. He alleged in his complaint that one of the contestant Gayathri in the show used the word cheri (slum dweller) during the conversation with another contestant in the show. The conversation has become a topic of debate in Kollywood circles. The incident also received severe criticism from the viewers.

Leader of Puthiya Tamizhagam K Krishnaswamy sought an apology from Kamal Haasan for Gayathri's remarks in the show. He also alleged that it was done to garner more TRP ratings for the show. He said, Kamal deliberately included the conversation and aired the programme only to make audience more curious.

The first season of Bigg Boss Tamil was launched on June 25, 2017, on Star Vijay.
