Bid to kidnap woman foiled in Banjara Hills

Even as citizens in Hyderabad were undertaking a midnight candle-light protest march on Saturday on the Tank Bund, a young woman and her male friend were attacked around the same time on Road No 12 in Banjara Hills in Hyderabad.

The man was beaten badly and left hurt and bleeding, the girl was molested and the gang of four tried to kidnap the girl.
According to sources Sridhar and Hira were returning home after attending a party. Four youth on two motorcycles stopped their car and tried to drag away the girl. Sridhar who went to the rescue of the girl was attacked with some sharp weapons which left him bleeding.
As the girl shouted for help, passers-by and some local residents went to help her, the attackers noticing that a crowd was gathering, fled from the spot on their bikes.
Later, they went to lodge a complaint with the Punjagutta police, who said that the crime did not occur in their jurisdiction and they should approach the Banjara Hills police.

The girl had even a few days ago informed the police that she was getting obscene and threatening calls on her mobile. But the police did not make efforts to trace the caller, a friend of the girl said.
