13 Nov, 2016 13:30 IST|Sakshi
A fake Rs2,000 note was detected at a petrol bunk in Mahbubabad district on Sunday.

Hyderabad: Even as people are still struggling to exchange the abolished Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes with the new Rs500 and Rs2,000 notes at banks and post offices, some miscreants came out with fake Rs2,000 notes offering them in exchange of old notes for a commission.

Those who were not lucky enough to change their old notes at banks or post offices thanks to the serpentine queues throughout the day and even on the weekend have fallen prey to these miscreants on Sunday.

In Mahbubabad district, an unidentified person gave a Rs2,000 note at a petrol bunk which the staff realized only after the customer was gone. As people are excited to see the new notes and they are not familiar with the features of the new notes, they are likely to fall prey to the new menace of fake notes.

Accept the new Rs2,000 and Rs500 notes only from banks even if it causes a lot of inconvenience.
