Bankers to farmers: We too may have to end lives

The state government is still saying that it would waive off crop and gold loans of farmers. But, the bank officials are serving notices to farmers saying that they would auction the mortgaged gold for non-payment of loans. This has made the farmers restive.

The farmers protested before Aspari branch of State Bank of India in Kurnool district on Monday demanding not to auction the gold. As the bank officials did not listen to the pleas of the farmers, tense situation was prevailed at the area.

The farmers have demanded that the state government immediately implement its election promise of loan waiver immediately.

The farmers protested at the bank branch. Addressing the farmers, the bank manager Kuna Ravi said that they were pressurized by their higher officials for the auctioning.

He also said that Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu did not give any clarity on the loan waiver till now. The manager said that they had opted for auctioning in compulsory conditions.

“We too have to commit suicide if the farmers did not pay back their loans till now,” said the manager.
