Bakrid Holiday On September 13

Bakrid will be observed officially on September 13

Hyderabad: The holiday for Bakrid or Eid al-Adha festival will be observed on September 13 (Tuesday) and not on September 12 (Monday). Central and state governments have announced the same in their calendars too. The decision has been taken after the by the religious leaders from the Central Moonsight Committee decided to celebrate the Muslim festival of sacrifice as the crescent of Islamic holy month for Zil Hajj was not sighted on September 2 (Friday) across India.

In this background, the High Court of Hyderabad has also issued a registry notice changing the holiday for Bakrid from September 12 to 13. The High Court also stated in the notice that September 12 is a working day for the Court and all other courts including distrcit Magistrate courts will also follow the order.

The state government is also making elaborative arrangements for the festival. The Chief Secretary of Minority Welfare Department Syed Umar Jaleel held a review meeting at Secretariat on the arrangements for Bakrid. He directed the officials to arrange the facilities for mass prayers at Eedgas and Masjids across the state.

September 3, Saturday, will be the 30th day of Dhu al-Qadah, the 11th month of Islamic calendar and Eid al-Adha will be celebrated 10 days later on September 13.

Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court announced in an official statement that Eid al-Adha will begin on Monday, September 12, and the Day of Arafah, which precedes the Eid festival, will be on Sunday September 11. As the Islamic calendar is based on lunar cycles, Bakrid falls on a different date each year.
