Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narsimhan called upon the Union Government to address all issues related to AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, including Special Category Status to the state.

The Governor was addressing a joint sitting of the AP Legislative Council and Assembly on the opening day of the budget session. The remarks come at a time when the principal opposition party, YSRCP has intensified its protests for SCS to the state. MPs, MLAs, MLCs of YSRCP, apart from a large number of party workers participated in the protests at Sansad Marg in the national capital.

It is worth recalling here that AP Leader of the Opposition and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had declared that if the Centre does not grant SCS to the state by the end of the budget session of parliament, the party's MPs in the Lok Sabha would resign. YS Jagan had also announced that the party would move a no confidence motion against the NDA government at the Centre on March 21, if SCS is not granted to AP by then.

Senior leader of YSRCP, Ummareddy Venkateswarulu led the protests in the public meeting that was arranged at the venue. Along with other leaders, he reminded party workers that it was YS Jagan who has been waging a relentless struggle for Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh from the time that the state was bifurcated.

In the light of these developments, the Governor's reference to the "people's demand to expedite the resolution of all provisions incorporated in the AP Reorganisation Act and assurances made in relation to it, including the special category status," could only have been triggered by YS Jagan's intensification of the state-wide struggle for SCS reminding people that it is AP's right. Meanwhile, the ruling Telugu Desam party has all along been demanding a special package from the Centre, while making token references to SCS.
