App to Help Citizens Lodge Complaints about Garbage Clearance

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will soon launch an app that will help residents of twin cities alert the civic body of garbage pile up in their localities.

All the citizens have to do is take a picture of the garbage on their smart phone and send it to the Sanitation Department of GHMC. The personnel Officials will then forward the picture to the division in-charge and ensure the clearance of the garbage. Besides, clearing the garbage the App is said to help the GHMC identify areas where garbage is regularly strewn and clean it up. The App is said to be launched within a month's time.
Meanwhile, the GHMC has identified over 2,000 spots in the city where garbage is strewn and are notorious for garbage pile-up. They have taken up steps to clear garbage in 1,116 such spots and make them garbage free. So far, 200 such spots have been cleared and signboards have been placed to caution the public against throwing garbage in the open.
The GHMC is also contemplating to make the App an integrated one for both the GHMC and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB). The move will help citizens to have a single window to lodge complaints pertaining to drainage, drinking water, sanitation and roads. Also, the GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy is also the managing director of HMWSSB officials hope that an integrated App will help in faster decision making.
