APCC writes to Modi seeking fulfillment of assurances for AP

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president N Raghuveera Reddy has written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding fulfillment of various promises given to the state, including granting of special status.

N Raghuveera Reddy said, for the past one-and-a-half years, they have been constantly bringing to their notice that the issue of granting special status to bifurcated Andhra Pradesh has not been fulfilled along with those promises made by your predecessor Manmohan Singh in Rajya Sabha on February 20, 2014 when the AP Re-organisation Bill was passed.

He also said that, PM Modi who came to the foundation laying ceremony at Amaravati on October 22, didn't make any formal statement on granting special status to AP apart from granting special package for the backward areas of Rayalaseema and north Coastal Andhra.

"Now, the disappointment is so huge because the promises made in Parliament deal not just with our future, but the future of our children. It deals not just with the aspirations of this generation, but the aims and opportunities, which our children are legally and morally entitled to." Reddy said.

He urged PM to implement the four assurances special status for AP, tax incentives to AP to attract industries, special package for backward areas of Rayalaseema and north coastal Andhra.

He said his party has taken up 'matti satyagraham', wherein people have been urged to send soil (mitti) and water from their respective areas to PM Modi.

Reddy also urged Prime Minister Modi, to take up a special interactive edition titled 'Mitti ki Baat' exclusively with the people of Andhra Pradesh on special status to AP in his 'Mann ki Baat'  programme, which is conducted every month by PM Modi dealing on various issues.
